Furthermore, the podcast aspect of this project is meant to answer a growing problem in the Computer Science community: a lack of accessible discussions that anyone could listen in on.

Project Abstract

The SSL Reading Group/ Podcast is an attempt at educating college researchers on how to properly write and read research material as well as meet the growing demand for an open and accessible discussion on Computer Science related topics. The Reading Group/ Podcast is a weekly event that is held internally at SSL but all notes and recordings are made public to the community via YouTube and associated platforms. The material covered by the group will typically by research papers published in esteemed journals as well as the occasional book or news in the realm(s) of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, and Information Technology. The end goal of this social experiement is to develop individuals fluent in the practices of as well as prolific and knowledgable in the Computer Science research community.

Features

  • The SSL Reading Group/ Podcast is ran by a fluid, interdisciplanary group of individuals focussed on the Computer Science research.

  • All research read and discussed will be acredited to the authors of said research. Furthermore, attempts will be made to try and get the researchers of such material to join in on the discussion of thier work(s) in order to properly further the discussion about their research.

  • Notes will be taken during these meetings and posted publicly online. Furthermore, as the intent is to have this be a podcast, an audio recording will be made available online. If the meeting is conducted over the internet, a video recording will also be uploaded as well.

    Note

If a video recording is done, it is recommended that the participants have a digital copy of the text pulled up on thier computers in case they need to share their screens with other participants.
